The McCombs Business School at the University of Texas at Austin held the final round of its Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition on Feb. 13 at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center. Graduate students from the university competed in a business plan and pitch competition for $110,000 in cash and prizes. Along with the chance to win startup funds, competitors gained real-world experience pitching their ideas to a judges panel made up of business leaders.The 30-minute long pitches ranged from social entrepreneurship ventures to consumer packaged goods to life science and IT and included a question and answer session with the judges. 20 teams competed in the semifinals held on Feb. 6, and the top five teams advanced onto the finals. Lisa Corless and Gerald Wilmink of WiseWear took the top prize and a $5,000 check. WiseWear Corp. is an Austin-based technology company that develops wearable fitness and medical monitoring devices.
